Built on History. Focused on the Future.

Welcome to “105 Years Forward,” a celebration of NID’s legacy and the people who make our mission possible. For more than a century, we’ve built, adapted, and grown with our communities. This campaign honors our history while highlighting the innovation and dedication that will carry us into the next 105 years. Join us as we explore the milestones, meet the people, and share the systems that keep water flowing and communities thriving.

Start Here: 105 Years of Water in Motion

Three workers are inside a large wooden structure, scraping and preparing its interior. The setting appears industrial or shipbuilding.

For more than a century, water has been moving through this system—across ridgelines, through canals, into reservoirs, and out to homes, farms, and businesses across the foothills.

What began in the 1920s with hand-built infrastructure like the Dressler Canal has grown into a complex, interconnected system that still relies on many of those original foundations today.

This campaign is your inside look at how it all works.

Over the next 16 weeks, we’ll take you behind the scenes—exploring the history, infrastructure, people, and daily operations that make reliable water delivery possible. From early engineering feats to modern technology and future planning, each week builds on the last to tell the full story of your water system.

Follow the Journey

Each week, we’ll highlight a different part of the system:

  • Where it started — the vision and early infrastructure that built the District
  • How it works today — treatment, delivery, hydropower, and daily operations
  • What’s ahead — climate challenges, innovation, and long-term planning

Why It Matters

Reliable water doesn’t happen on its own. It takes infrastructure, planning, and people working every day to keep the system running.

This is the story of that work—and why it matters to the community, both today and for generations to come.
