NID team helps bring the Nevada County Fair to life

The 2025 NID volunteers get the job done. This year, the Nevada County Fair ran from Aug. 6-10, and the theme was “Gold Pans & Cattle Brands.”

As they have for many years, NID employees volunteered to help set up the Nevada County Fair. Their hard work behind the scenes is tough, invaluable, and deeply appreciated by the community.

Thanks to the NID volunteers (left to right): Ryan Pfile, Equipment Mechanic; Adam Custer, Utility Worker II; Tim Rowe, Maintenance Supervisor; Eric Lauer, Equipment Operator; Scott Davis, Equipment Operator-Placer; and Rob Graham, Cross Connection Control Technician II.

From Sierra streams to greener dreams

On August 5, 1921, voters in Nevada County made a historic decision that would reshape the future of their communities. With a vote of 636 to 163, residents approved the formation of a local irrigation district — a pivotal step toward bringing Sierra Nevada water to the parched farms and ranches of the foothills. Just ten days later, on August 15, NID was officially established.

To some, it may have seemed like just another election. But for the families working the land, it marked the dawn of a new era — one no longer driven by gold or timber, but by the life-sustaining promise of water.

School's In: Safety's On

As the new school year begins, kids are heading back to class. This means more children walking, biking, and riding buses, especially during morning and afternoon commute hours. Please stay alert, slow down in school zones, and watch carefully for kids crossing streets. A little extra caution goes a long way in keeping everyone safe.
