Public hearing set for NID’s Urban Water Management Plan Update

On May 13, 2026, the Nevada Irrigation District (NID) Board of Directors will hold a public hearing to review and consider adoption of the 2025 update to its Urban Water Management Plan (UWMP).
The UWMP outlines how NID will supply and manage water to meet current and future demands. It includes information on water supply reliability, projected water availability, and strategies to meet customer needs. The plan also describes existing and future water sources, provides estimates of past, current, and projected water use, includes a five-year drought risk assessment, and details the District’s Water Shortage Contingency Plan and ongoing conservation efforts.
Public participation is encouraged. Comments may be provided in person at the public hearing or submitted in advance via email to ops@nidwater.com.
The UWMP update addresses the following key components:
- Overview of water supply reliability, projected supplies, and strategies to meet future water demands
- Description of the District’s water service area
- Summary of existing and planned water supply sources
- Estimates of past, current, and projected water use
- 20x2020 water use target compliance analysis
- Description of existing and planned water conservation Demand Management Measures (DMMs) and other conservation efforts
- Five-year drought risk assessment
- Description of the Water Shortage Contingency Plan and conservation program
Updates to the UWMP are required under California law (Assembly Bill 797, Water Code Section 10610 et seq.), which mandates that urban water suppliers serving more than 3,000 customers or delivering over 3,000 acre-feet annually adopt and submit a UWMP every five years to the California Department of Water Resources.
