NID Board of Directors continues discussion on proposed water rate adjustments

Grass Valley, CA., March 5, 2026 -- The NID Board of Directors will continue its discussion of proposed water rate adjustments at its March 11 meeting, when Directors are expected to consider initiating the Proposition 218 process.
Any proposed rate changes are guided by the District’s commitment to setting fair and equitable rates that generate sufficient revenue to meet operational and financial obligations. An adjustment is necessary to ensure revenues keep pace with rising costs and to support the continued reliable delivery of water to customers.
NID has not adjusted water rates since January 2021. In the years since, the District has maintained high-quality service while absorbing significant increases in expenses. Inflation, rising energy costs, and higher material and construction costs have all contributed to increased operating costs.
Additionally, the District is planning for the financial impact of the Scotts Flat Spillway Improvement Project, which will complete state-required repairs. The proposed rates will help ensure the critical water infrastructure system improvements keep pace and support our commitment to providing a dependable water supply for the communities we serve.
The rate-setting process will comply with all legal requirements under Proposition 218. This includes mailing notices to all water customers and account holders, providing detailed information about the proposed adjustments, and holding a public hearing to allow customers to offer input. Under Proposition 218, customers who oppose the proposed rates may submit written protests to the District prior to or during the public hearing.
The March 11 meeting will begin at 9:00 a.m. in the NID Boardroom, 1036 W. Main Street, Grass Valley, CA 95945.
