NID Begins Annual Water System Flushing

Two workers in safety vests inspect water flowing on a road, with a pipe and utility truck nearby.

(Grass Valley, Nov. 5, 2025) The Nevada Irrigation District (NID) has started its annual flushing program to keep treated water pipelines clean and operating efficiently.

Flushing has begun in Cascade, Banner Mountain, and Red Dog areas.

During the process, NID crews open fire hydrants so water can flow through main lines at a higher velocity of up to 400 gallons per minute. This helps wash away any buildup collected over the year.

The annual flushing program ensures that water pipelines function properly to maintain high-quality drinking water to customers.
