NID welcomes summer recreation season with safety reminder

(May 21, 2026) -- As summer recreation season begins at Nevada Irrigation District (NID) reservoirs and campgrounds, visitors are reminded to make safety a priority while enjoying the outdoors.

Warmer weather and full reservoirs bring increased activity on the water and at campgrounds. Whether boating, swimming, fishing, paddling, or camping, visitors are encouraged to take simple precautions to help keep recreation areas safe and enjoyable for everyone.

“NID’s reservoirs and campgrounds are important recreation destinations during the summer months,” said Monica Reyes, NID's Director of Recreation. “We want everyone to have a great experience while also staying aware of water and fire safety.”

NID encourages visitors to:
• Always wear a life jacket while boating or participating in water activities
• Closely supervise children near the water
• Be aware that water temperatures can remain cold, even during hot weather
• Avoid alcohol while boating or swimming
• Follow posted speed limits and boating regulations
• Respect campground quiet hours and recreation rules

Campers are also reminded to use extra caution with campfires. Wood fires should remain contained within designated fire rings, and flames should be kept low at all times. Visitors should never leave fires unattended and should fully extinguish fires before leaving a campsite.

As conditions can change quickly during the summer, visitors are encouraged to stay alert and recreate responsibly.
