Nevada Irrigation District (NID) is joining forces with the Nevada Union Joint High School District to support agricultural education and promote responsible water stewardship at the new Nevada Union High School Farm in south Nevada County.

The 86‑acre ranch, recently established as part of the school’s career technical education program, provides real-world training in animal science, ag business, ag mechanics and ornamental horticulture. Because water is essential to the success of the site, NID staff met with school leaders several times to explore partnership opportunities.

This week, the NID Board of Directors approved a Memorandum of Understanding that creates a framework for collaboration. The agreement outlines shared goals to improve agricultural water-use efficiency, support best management practices and enhance public outreach on water conservation and sustainable agriculture.

Under the MOU, NID and the school district will work together on educational programs, demonstrations, workshops, classroom activities and community events focused on water and agriculture. Students may participate in hands-on lessons with NID staff, while the ranch may be used as a demonstration site for water-efficient practices.

The partnership also emphasizes science-based decision-making, data sharing and engagement with the broader community. Both organizations will designate a primary coordinator to support joint activities.

For NID, the collaboration reflects its commitment to supporting local agriculture and investing in the next generation of land and water stewards.
