From Source to Tap

Two children are enjoying drinks and relaxing on the grass, with a soccer ball nearby, sharing smiles and fun moments.

When you turn on the tap, you expect clean, safe, reliable water. And every day, that’s exactly what NID delivers.

What most people don’t see is the journey water takes before it reaches your home. From local reservoirs to advanced treatment and rigorous testing, every drop moves through a carefully managed process designed to protect public health and meet the highest drinking water standards.

Behind the scenes, trained professionals monitor, test, and maintain the system every hour of every day to ensure the water delivered to homes, schools, and businesses across our community is safe and dependable.

Explore how water moves from source to tap ...  and the people, science, and infrastructure behind every drop.

Reservoir

Water begins its journey in local reservoirs, where it is collected and held before treatment. At this stage, it is natural source water and may contain debris and other materials that need to be removed before it is safe to drink.

Screening

The first step in treatment is screening, where larger materials like leaves, sediment, and natural debris are removed. This helps protect equipment and prepares the water for deeper treatment.

Treatment

Water then moves through a series of treatment processes designed to remove fine particles and reduce contaminants. These carefully controlled steps improve water quality and ensure it meets strict safety standards.

Testing

A person is holding a small test tube filled with liquid, possibly for analysis or inspection in a lab setting.

Throughout treatment, water is regularly tested in certified laboratories. Specialists analyze samples to confirm that the water consistently meets or exceeds state and federal drinking water standards.

Distribution

Once treated and tested, water is delivered through a network of pipelines that carries it safely to homes, schools, and businesses across the community.

Tap

By the time water reaches your tap, it has been thoroughly treated, tested, and monitored. What comes out is safe, reliable drinking water ready for everyday use.
