NID’s flushing program is conducted annually in the winter months and is designed to keep treated water pipelines clean and ensure a fresh, high quality water supply.
Fire hydrants and water mains are tapped, allowing water to flow through main lines at a higher velocity, washing away any residue that may have collected over the year.
Flushing does not usually affect water service in the area. Customers may experience momentary pressure changes when nearby hydrants are tapped. Customers also may experience some turbid or discolored water, which can be cleared quickly by opening a faucet and letting the water run.
Crews flush NID water systems October through March each year. The schedule is posted below. Anyone with questions about the water system flushing program may call the NID Operations Dept. at (530) 273-6185.
