GRASS VALLEY – The Nevada
Irrigation District has announced the appointment of John R. Kirk to the
position of manager of Operations and Maintenance, effective May 24. Kirk, a
civil engineer who has been with NID for 11 years, has managed the NID
Maintenance Department for the past three years. In his new position, he will
also oversee the Water Operations Department. Together, the two departments
employ 110 of NID’s 175-member work force. In announcing the appointment, NID
General Manager Ron Nelson said Kirk has been an effective manager for the
district and that the consolidation of management will provide for increased
collaboration between the two departments. “Our first priority is to maintain
the excellent customer service the district is known for,” Nelson said. “We
also want to provide some financial efficiencies for the district.” The
consolidation of management duties follows the Apr. 30 retirement of former
Water Operations Manager Don Wight. Kirk grew up in Auburn, graduated from
Placer High School and earned his civil engineering degree from CSU Sacramento.
He gained work experience in the private and public sectors before joining
NID’s Engineering Department in 1999. He worked as an associate engineer and
senior associate engineer before being named to a department head position in
2007. He resides with his family in Weimar.
