FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
GRASS VALLEY - Unexpected difficulties have
raised the cost of the ongoing Brunswick Pipeline Project, it was reported at
Wednesday’s (June 11) meeting of the NID Board of Directors.
NID project engineer Adrian Schneider said the district’s contractor encountered
contaminated soils and groundwater under Brunswick Road, resulting in additional
remediation costs.
Directors approved a contract adjustment of $477,000 to cover added excavation,
hauling, disposal and permit costs of the project, which is a major mainline
extension from Bubbling Wells Road through the Glenbrook Basin to East Main
Street.
Schneider said project contractor C&D Construction of Nevada City is doing a
very good job on the project, which is nearing completion.
In other business, directors:
- approved a $1 million budget transfer to allow staff
to move forward with replacement of badly deteriorated pipelines serving the
Tim Burr-Star Lane-Hollydale and Wood Rose Way areas off Brunswick Road.
- learned that the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission
(FERC) will hold public scoping sessions on the relicensing of the NID
Yuba-Bear Power Project and PG&E Drum-Spaulding Project. The meetings will
be held on June 24 at 9 a.m. at the Auburn Holiday Inn and at 7 p.m. at the
Grass Valley Holiday Inn Express.
The next regular meeting of the NID Board of Directors
will be held at 9 a.m. on June 25 at the NID Business Center in Grass Valley.
