FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
GRASS VALLEY - A new treated water supply will be
coming to the Rodeo Flat Road area west of Lake of the Pines, under action taken
Wednesday (Apr. 9) by the Nevada Irrigation District Board of Directors.
About a dozen area property owners attended the meeting and many voiced support
for the formation of an assessment district to provide water service. Residents
spoke of poor and failing water wells in the area and one local nurse said her
family had used bottled water since 1992.
The meeting included the tabulation of results of a vote in which 29 of 31
property owners (93.5 percent) cast ballots to assess themselves to pay for the
water system improvements. A total 36 property owners were eligible to vote in
the election.
Properties in the Rodeo Flat Assessment District will pay about $1800 per year
for 25 years as part of their county property tax bills. Property owners may
choose to pay in advance, an amount of about $22,000 per parcel.
The system improvements include land acquisition, a booster pump station, future
water storage tank, water main lines and fire hydrants. The total project is
estimated at $1.8 million. In other business:
- General Manager Ron Nelson announced that on Friday
(Apr. 11) the district would file its formal Notice of Intent (NOI) and
Pre-Application Document (PAD) for relicensing of the Yuba Bear Project. The
filings open an official five-year process with the Federal Energy
Regulatory Commission (FERC) to renew NID’s original power license. NID
obtained the 50-year license in 1963 to build and operate the project. The
district expects the new license by April 2013.
The next regular meeting of the NID Board of Directors
will be held at 9 a.m. on Apr. 23 at the NID Business Center in Grass Valley.
NID board meetings are open to the public.
